Inter Squadron Athletics Competition

On Sunday 22nd May we took 13 Cadets to the Inter squadron Athletics Competition at Aldershot Military Stadium.
We arrived at the stadium looking smart in our new squadron t shirts and feeling very nervous, as most of them it was their first ever time at a Squadron sporting event. We took the cadets for a warm up around the track and did a few stretches and after practicing for the running and the batten changes for the relay we were ready for the Inter squadron Athletics.

Our First event was the Intermediate 800m and the long jump which is where we won our first two medals (Gold and Bronze). We also won medals in the Intermediate girl’s Long jump and high jump (two silvers) and the junior boys 300m (Bronze medal)
It was a tense time in the shot with one of the cadets just missing out on a medal with 4th place. We were back on track with a winning Bronze medal in the girls Intermediate 400m, pushing through even with an injury.

After a tough time in the discus and the javelin with record breaking throws from other squadrons we soldiered on through to a gruesome 1500m. We had two cadets competing for Intermediate and senior Boys and we came through with yet another Bronze medal.

After all the main events were over it was time for the exciting 4x100m relay. We entered two teams, one junior boys and one Intermediate Boys team. After screaming and shouting and nearly losing our voices our junior team gained a Silver medal. In the Intermediate the Boys came second in their heat but were sadly knocked back to fourth by the second heat.

After all the races were completed the Squadrons paraded in their Sports kit to be presented with the awards and trophies for the most points in each section.

Lastly the medals for all the relay events were awarded and we received a very welcome Silver medal in the junior boys relay. A good day was had by all and we are looking forward to competing in the event again next year.

Our final medal count was 1 Gold,6 silver and 4 Bronze. And a final huge congratulations and thanks to all that participated.

1268 Squadron Wins Award

On Sunday 8th May 2016, 1268 (Haslemere) Squadron ATC, attended the Surrey Young Superstars Awards, having been nominated and won the ‘Volunteering Superstar (Group)’ category.

The event, held at the Harbour Hotel in Guildford, was well attended by a variety of youth organisations and individuals. 1268 Squadron was represented by seven Cadets and four members of staff, including the Squadrons Officer Commanding Flt Lt Kevin Burchett.

The event started at 3pm, where everyone was greeted by the events organising staff, followed by cakes, sandwiches and cream teas. During this time, many official photographs were taken prior to the ceremony, where the official guest, the HM Lord – Lieutenant of Surrey, Mr. Michael More-Molyneux was in attendance to present all of the awards to the winners.

The event, this year supported by Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), was there to congratulate those individuals or groups in their achievements. 1268 (Haslemere) Squadron, picking up ‘Volunteering Superstar (Group)’ award, had been recognised for their continued support to Haslemere and its local sporting and charitable events. Receiving high praise from the Haslemere Town Mayor, 1268 Squadron have finally been rewarded for their hard work and support that they continue to give year on year. The cadets give up their free time on the weekends to support these events, which many have come to rely on 1268 Squadron for their continued support.
